Prof. Dr. Amir Shaharudin is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia. He was previously the Dean of Centre for Graduate Studies and prior to that, he was the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He obtained his B.A (Hons) Sharia from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, Master of Business Administration (Hons) from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and PhD (Arabic and Islamic Studies) from University of Exeter, United Kingdom.
Prof. Amir currently serves as the Chairman of Shariah Committee (SC) at Hong Leong MSIG Takaful and a member of SC of Hong Leong Islamic Bank. He started his career as a tutor in 2003 at Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, USIM and is still attached with the university as a professor.
Prof Amir had published numerous articles in refereed journals including Journal of Muamalat and Islamic Finance Research (JMIFR), Arab Law Quarterly Jurnal Syariah and International Shariah Research Academy (ISRA), and International Journal of Islamic Finance. He has written various journals and articles for forums and seminars on Islamic banking and finance, zakat, Islamic law, principles of Islamic jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh), Islamic legal maxims and Siyasah Shar’iyyah (Shariah-oriented policy. He has also presented numerous academic papers in various international seminars in many countries such as Indonesia, Bahrain, United Kingdom, and Italy. Prof. Amir was the first Scholar in Residence at Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS), a program sponsored by Securities Commission Malaysia (SC). He was also appointed as Visiting Scholar at Urgench State University, Uzbekistan for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020, and recently as Adjunct Professor in UNITAR International.
