Prof. Dr. Fauzias Mat Nor is a professor of finance at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) since 2015. Her research interest is in Islamic Finance with a special focus on Corporate Finance and Banking. Before joining USIM in 2015, She has served Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for more than 29 years in various academic positions. She also has served Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) on Investment Committee and YAPEIM on Risk Management Committee. She received her Diploma in Accountancy from ITM, Shah Alam, Malaysia, in 1977 and BBA (Finance) from the University of Miami, Florida, the USA in 1984. Next, she received MBA from the University of Miami, Florida, the USA in 1985 and PhD (Finance) from University College Dublin in 1991.
Her interest in Islamic Finance began when she was a professor at UKM. The journey to embark on research in Islamic Finance began when she was at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OXCIS) as a visiting scholar in 2013. In USIM, she wrote a few books related to her research interest. One of her books, entitled “Islamic Banking and Conventional Banking: A Comparative Approach, ” will be published this year in 2022 by Penerbit USIM. She was given a task to lead the Islamic Finance and Wealth Management Institute (IFWMI) and an advisor for the ongoing USIM research flagship entitled “Financial Literacy E-Modul Development for Micro Businesses Entrepreneur: From Financial Inclusion to Social Inclusion”. She also leads the Islamic Finance cluster in the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat and the Journal of Economics and Muamalat (JMIFR) as a Chief Editor.
In the year 2021, she was awarded the Research Excellence Consortium (REC) grant by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) with the research entitled “Synergyzing Waqf Ecosystem in Malaysia Islamic Social Finance: Measuring the Impact of ‘Benefidonors’ Utilising the Digital Platform in Enhancing Sustainable Community Development. In the same year, she was also awarded Yayasan Tun Ismail Ali (YTI), the Permodalan National Berhad (PNB) research grant entitled “Application of Maqasid al-Shariah and Siyasah Shar’iyyah in Responsible Investment and Practices towards Environmental, Social and Governance Concern: Evidence of Permodalan National Berhad Investment”. She is now the chairholder YTI chair.
